From the days of “whites only” on City Council, the era of white flight and mandatory bussing, splitting Jackson Ward with an interstate highway, at-large mayor and the ward system … there’s a long, long history of race in city and county governments. It would make for an interesting evening(s) to have a roundtable discussion / town hall meeting with current and former local government officials. They’re politicians, so we’ll need an exceptional moderator. To honestly talk about the influence of race in Richmond politics.
Well-behaved public welcome. Maybe we can get local PBS to sponsor.
